Fighting Discrimination in Public Schools

Standing against discrimination in publicly run colleges and universities...

Colleges like community colleges, state universities, and other higher education institutes are generally publicly run and operated by the funds allotted to them by the federal government. This means that everything from college admittance to student participation in daily college activities must adhere to the laws set in place by the US government. One of those many laws set in place states that discrimination against anyone due to their gender, race, national origin, or religious beliefs are strictly forbidden. Unfortunately, discrimination within public schools still occurs. If you have been a victim of discrimination at your public college or university, then please do not hesitate to contact an attorney who is familiar with public school discrimination matters.

Numerous laws have been set in place to ensure that all students are given an equal opportunity to succeed. The Equal Educational Opportunities Act strictly forbids public schools from discriminating on the basis of race, color, or nationality. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against anyone with a disability. Additional laws prevent schools from selective admittance, or giving certain students preferential treatment. As a student at a public college, you are entitled to equal treatment under the law. If you have been a victim of discrimination at a public school, then please do not hesitate to contact a public school discrimination lawyer immediately.

In addition to the federal law, the state of New York also has laws to protect individuals from education discrimination. For example, the Dignity for All Students Act makes it illegal for both employees and students to harass someone on campus property or at school functions as well as prohibits overall discrimination against a student based on their color, weight, ethnicity, religion, religious practices, disability, race, and/or sexual orientation.

With all of these laws protecting you against discrimination, unfair, and unequal treatment, do not allow unequal treatment at your public university or college to occur. If you have been denied classes, participation in a school event or function, or denied student housing because of who you are as an individual, then do not let it go! Contact a public school discrimination attorney immediately. The person, persons, or entity involved in this dreadful act should be held accountable and properly disciplined so that this egregious offense does not happen to you or anyone else ever again.

Attending college is an admirable step. It requires discipline, courage, wisdom, and focus. Do not let someone taint your college experience with discrimination. Regardless of the exact offense, any type of public school discrimination is a violation of federal law. If you feel that your equality rights have been stepped on, do not hesitate to contact Managing Attorney Angel A. Castro and his legal team.
